Grey and Simcoe Counties are hosting a social services conference at Blue Mountain.
The Ontario Municipal Social Services Association conference and annual general meeting is being held today and continues until Wednesday.
Grey County Social Services Director Barbara Fedy notes this is the second time in recent years that the conference has happened at Blue.
It was also there in 2002, when Grey, Simcoe and Bruce Counties hosted the event.
OMSSA, as it is called, represents municipal social and community services workers from across the province.
Its mandate is to enhance the capability of its members to plan, manage and deliver human services to their communities.
This will be the association’s 60th anniversary conference.
There will be guest speakers from provincial ministries and agencies, numerous learning symposiums and exhibitors, an awards gala dinner, and planned recreational events like a golf tournament and bus trips to the Scenic Caves and the Scandinavian Baths.
The speakers will include Community and Social Services Minister Madeleine Meilleur, Children and Youth Services Minister Laurel Broten, and Senator Art Eggleton, a former mayor of Toronto.
Fedy says about 300 delegates have registered for the conference.
It’s thought that many of those people will bring their families with them for the vacation experience.
