It was a walker’s paradise in Bruce County.
The first ever Walking Festival was held this past weekend at various locations including Saugeen Shores and MacGregor Park.
Town Manager of Recreation and Culture Jayne Jagelewski says for a first time effort the event was a success and the organizing committee is planning to make it an annual event.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the official opening of the Gore Drain/Rotary Way trail on Concession 4, near MacGregor Point Provincial Park.
Jagelewski says this was the final piece of the walking trail puzzle and now you can get on the rail trail in Southampton and trek all the way to MacGregor Park by foot or by bike.
She says later this year, there will be addition to our trails.
The Saugeen Shores bicycle trail along North Shore Road will be completed soon which will allow cyclists to enjoy a spectacular view on bike from North Shore Park in Port Elgin to South Street in Southampton.
