The 8th annual Doors Open Owen Sound continues today.
There are 19 sites are participating in this weekend’s event as part of a province-wide initiative by the Ontario Heritage Trust to celebrate community heritage.
The sites include the Beth Ezekiel Synagogue, the Billy Bishop Home and Museum, the Owen Sound Marine and Rail Museum, the former Station Hotel, the Great Lakes International Marine Training Centre at Georgian College, Greenwood Cemetery and Mausoleum, the Roxy Theatre and many more.
There will also be local art exhibitions around the City.
Community Services Director Pam Coulter says more than six thousand site visits were recorded in Owen Sound last year.
Per capita, that ranked in the provincial top 10 out of more than 50 communities.
Coulter adds 38 per cent of the visits were made by people from out of town.
So she notes that means more money for the economy with a large number of overnight hotel stays.
Owen Sound Heritage Planning Coordinator Sandi Parks says they will conduct a socio-economic impact study of people visiting the sites.
Parks says it will tell them exactly where they are coming from, how much money they spend and what else they will do while in the Scenic City.
