High school students across Grey and Bruce Counties are going to learn about the importance of organ donation.
Both the Bruce Grey Catholic and Bluewater school boards are participating in a pilot project aimed at educating youth about organ and tissue transplantation.
The One Life – Many Gifts program shows young people that they have the power to change the lives of others through organ donation.
It also shows how their lives could be changed in the same way if they ever require a life saving transplant.
Catholic Superintendent of Secondary Education Jerry Casey says both boards will incorporate the program into the curriculum through subjects like health or religion.
There are currently 18 hundred people in Ontario waiting for a life saving organ transplant.
Every three days one of them dies before a match can be found.
Teachers and administrators from both school boards will learn about the program on Friday.
The actual unit itself won’t be introduced into the classroom until the Fall.
