The Hanover Police Department is trying to increase its presence in the community.
From now on each officer will be required to spend at least one hour per shift on foot patrol.
Each officer will also be required to visit schools a minimum of 20 times per year.
The Police Chief or a representative will also attend the Chamber of Commerce luncheons to keep in touch with the business community.
The changes are all part of a new strategic plan for the police department.
Public input from a community policing survey was incorporated into the strategic plan.
The plan also calls for a feasibility study on the small aging police headquarters building.
The strategic plan also calls for regular meetings with neighbouring police agencies and drug liaison officers.
Past Police Service Board Chair Wayne Dickert believes the public will like the new changes.
