86 per cent of the respondents to our recent online news survey think Canada “Owned the Podium” at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
They believe that the program was a success and Ottawa is right to continue funding it.
One respondent says because we won the most gold medals, we won the Games, while another points out that the athletes did an amazing job and made us proud.
One listener says Canadian athletes not only won more medals than ever before, they also created a resurgence of Canadian pride at home and around the world.
Another respondent wishes the government had started the program years ago.
And one person calls the 2010 Vancouver Games the “best Olympics ever!!!”.
Only 14 per cent of the respondents to our online news poll believe Canada did not Own the Podium because we did not win the most medals.
Canada finished third in the medal standings with 26, behind Germany at 30 and the US with 37.
That was a record Winter Games tally for Canada – and our 14 gold medals were the most ever won by any country at a Winter Games.
