The off-the-cuff comment from a local MPP that Toronto should form it’s own province has taken on a life of it’s own.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch told the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture meeting recently, that rural Ontario would be a lot better off without Metro Toronto.
Since then, Murdoch has been swamped by media requests for interviews about his statement.
He has received an email from Toronto mayor David Miller who says “it was a unique idea and maybe we should discuss it.”
At the same time, Bill Murdoch has received flack from some commentators.
Toronto Star reporter Rosie DiManno says the “Hick MPP can have all of rural Ontario”.
She goes on to wonder if the Bruce Federation of agriculture is a vaguely gay-commie organization.
Murdoch tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, that simply shows the “Toronto Mentality”.
DiManno he says, doesn’t even know where his riding is.
Tory leader Tim Hudak doesn’t support the idea of a separate province for Toronto — but he says Premier Dalton McGuinty has shown rural Ontario the back of his hand.
