Although the snow has barely left us — thoughts are already turning to one of Owen Sound’s hottest events on the calendar each summer.
The Georgian Bay Folk Society has announced a special partnership this year for Summerfolk.
They’ll be teaming up with the local branch of Habitat for Humanity to offer shuttle bus service to the August event from several corners of the region.
Folk Society President Brenda Scott says Habitat officials approached them with the idea of setting up shuttles across Grey, Bruce and Simcoe Counties.
It would be a much needed fundraiser for Habitat with five builds on the schedule this year…and a convenient way to get visitors to and from the concerts.
Scott says they haven’t decided yet exactly where the buses will be picking up — but that information will be released shortly.
She says they’re also still mulling over whether to offer the in town shuttles they had the past two years.
Scott says the buses should alleviate some of the traffic congestion around Kelso Beach Park and will also curtail drinking and driving issues.
It also provides an environmentally friendly option by encouraging more people to leave their cars at home.
This year’s Summerfolk will be held the weekend of August 20th.
The line up will be announced March 27th.
