The Bluewater Veterans’ Highway could stretch along Highway 21 from Kincardine all the way to the 402 in Lambton Shores before very long.
Lambton Shores Mayor Gord Minielly says there’s a local movement in his area to have the south end of 21 designated by the Ministry of Transportation.
Minielly says two members of the Grand Bend Legion branch — Sharon and Ron Crown — approached Council recently to see if they could help bring about the designation.
Minielly says there’s no shortage of support for the designation proposal.
He says all members of Municipal Council are behind the idea which has also received support from Lambton Kent Middlesex Liberal MPP Maria Van Bommel.
Minielly says there’s a good chance that securing the Bluewater Veterans’ Highway designation in his area may not take as long as it did for the section of Highway 21 between Goderich and Kincardine.
Minielly says the Transportation Ministry may move more quickly on the Lambton Shores proposal because the McGuinty government already has the experience from the designation process in Huron and Bruce Counties.
The Bluewater Veterans’ Highway from Goderich to Kincardine was officially dedicated a year ago after a lengthy battle by members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 in Goderich with support from their counterparts in Kincardine.
