It is one of the best late winters’ on record for snow-melt and water levels in the Saugeen Conservation area.
General Manager of the Conservation Authority Jim Coffey tells Bayshore Broadcasting News there are no problems in the watershed right now, with no watches or warnings in effect.
Coffey says the weather has been perfect in the past few weeks, allowing the snow to disappear slowly without raising water levels in the lakes or rivers too quickly.
This weekend, the forecast is for rain and Coffey says it will increase levels slightly but he doesn’t see a big problem.
He warns parents however, to keep their kids away from any fast moving water and slippery river banks.
Even the winter was good for the region with little frazzel ice created in the rivers compared with previous years and many areas received less snow than usual.
Coffey says the snow melt is going away just the way they hope it will and he doesn’t expect any problems over the next few weeks unless we get a lot of rain.
