History is coming right into Kincardine classrooms.
The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre’s Museum in a Box Project allows artifacts from the collection in Southampton to be brought to classrooms in Kincardine as teaching aids.
Director Barbara Ribey says they provide a complete lesson outline for teachers to follow as well.
It’s geared to grades one to six and focuses on pioneers, medieval times, climate change, and marine heritage.
Ribey says its not just a teaching aid for history, but for all areas of the Ontario Curriculum used in elementary classrooms.
She says Museum in a Box allows students to touch artifacts — something they can’t do when they visit the museum, but she hopes it also serves as a way of encouraging more children and their families to visit the facility.
The Museum in a Box program was made possible by financial support from the Municipality of Kincardine.
