Wind energy is a hot topic in Grey, Bruce and Huron Counties.
Doctor Rupp Carriveau is an Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Windsor and he specializes in the dynamics of wind energy.
Carriveau says the recent announcement for the 7 billion dollar investment in Ontario’s wind and solar energy is exciting.
Carriveau says he understands where the critism of wind turbines is coming from – But that level of investment is so substantial because it is the kind of kick-start the industry needs.
Several municipalities have been dealing with complaints from residents about the negative health effects from the turbines in recent months.
Carriveau says it is his opinion that wind energy is the least of the evils we could be facing from a power source.
He asks what are the alternatives when we exhaust all fossil assets – And adds wind is environmentally benign.
The professor says he has work with wind turbines for days on end and has never experienced negative health symptoms.
Carriveau says he believes a silent wind turbine has been built and thinks that we are very close to that option.
Carriveau says he does have a biased in favour of the turbines because of his career.
