It cost just over 147 thousand dollars to cover the salaries and expenses of Hanover’s nine member council.
40 thousand dollars of that is covered by Grey County for Hanover’s two County Councillors.
Of the 147 thousand dollars — 136 thousand of that was spent on salaries and per diems and about 11 hundred dollars was spent of travel and convention expenses.
Mayor Kathi Maskell earned the most at just under 41 thousand dollar — half of which is covered by Grey County .
Deputy Mayor Gerry Rogers was second top earner with a salary of almost 34 thousand dollars — 21 thousand of which is covered by Grey County.
Councillor salaries averaged out at 12 thousand dollars a year — and jumps to 14 thousand once travel and convention expenses are factored in.
Mayor Kathi Maskell makes no apologies for the figures. She says councillors work hard for the money and have earned every dollar.
Maskell adds serving on a municipal council is a very rewarding experience — however like any job — it has its bumps and challenges.
She cites red tape and the slow pace of municipal politics as two of her own personal challenges with the job.
