Grey Bruce residents can expect a knock at the door soon if they haven’t already.
February is Heart and Stroke Month and the time of year canvassers go door to door collecting funds.
Area manager Jason Hoffman says they’ve got almost a thousand volunteers this year looking for 137 thousand dollars.
He says they managed to collect 115 thousand last year during tougher economic times.
Hoffman says their official volunteers will be recognizable by their red volunteer packets, their official volunteer buttons and the Heart and Stroke receipt book.
He says they’ll be canvassing mainly in the evening with a special push on Monday — Family Day.
Hoffman says heart disease is the number one killer of Canadians and he says it starts with our children.
He says while 26 percent of children in Ontario are considered overweight or obese — that number is 29 percent in Grey Bruce.
Part of the problem, he says, is that its tougher to walk from place to place in rural communities.
The money raised from the door to door campaign goes to research.
