It’s showtime!
The latest edition of the Winter Olympic Games is about to unfold in Vancouver and area and ready or not the competitions are now for real.
Many pundits are saying this is Canada’s year for medals.
Others says putting this kind of pressure on our athletes is not going to help the outcome.
Former Olympic medallist and now CTV analyst at this year’s games, Elizabeth Manley tells Bayshore Broadcasting News we are in for a good run.
Manley, who won silver in skating in Calgary in 1988, believes Canadians will fare well and indeed “Own the Podium,” during these games.
She says the pressure for athletes is what they make it.
Manley says the pressure to win in Canada, for Canada, should be embraced by the athletes to move them to better performances.
She says otherwise she suggests athletes just focus on what they can control and that is their performances.
Manley will be the analysts at the mens and womens figure skating competitions.
She believes this is the first time in Olympic history that Canada has a figure skating team where we are contenders in all four disciplines–men, ladies, dance and pairs.
However she says there’s some pretty tough competition out there but Canada should do very well.
The Olympics officially get underway tonight with some spectacular opening ceremonies and then for the next two weeks, all eyes will be on Canada.
All Canadian eyes will be looking for those elusive medals.
