A new tact is being taken between Arran Elderslie officials and the owner of the Paisley Inn.
The new Chief Building Official, Steve Walmsley says a meeting last week with Burke Maidlow was productive and co-operative in nature — although he says they’ve decided to no longer hash things out in the media.
Walmsley says its a private matter between the municipality and Maidlow and residents can rest assured things are moving along well.
The building and its owner have been a sore spot for Arran Elderslie for almost four years and eventually ended up in court last November.
That’s when a judge finally ruled that the demolition order for the nearly 145 year old Paisley Inn was invalid.
Former building official, Craig Johnston was dismissed from his job last summer for breach of contract.
As for whether the old building poses an immediate danger to the public — Walmsley says he has two different engineering reports in his hands with two differing opinions.
Walmsley has given Maidlow until February 28th to apply for a building permit to repair the run down inn and to let officials know what he’s going to use the building for.
