The final tally is in for what Bruce Power employees have collected for earthquake relief in Haiti.
For the past week, cash donations were collected at the plant gates when staff came and went from work.
118 thousand dollars was raised by employees for the Red Cross, and the company is going to match it dollar for dollar.
On top of that — the federal government will match the amount donated by employees.
Grey-Bruce Red Cross Community Services Coordinator Stephanie Murray says it’s a bonus that the donations came in so quickly.
She says it means the money can get to Haiti as fast as possible to meet the basic needs of the people there.
Bruce Power CEO Duncan Hawthorne says everyone has been moved by the images of the earthquake damage on television.
He was confident that employees would make contributions and the company was happy to match them.
Hawthorne says the management team, union leaders, and other employees all volunteered their time to stand at the plant gates to collect donations.
Bruce Power often holds gate collection donations for individual employees in need or for other local causes.
