For a woman going through chemotherapy, routines like housecleaning can fall apart.
That’s why Merry Maids of Owen Sound has decided to lend a helping hand.
Owner Kathryn Kenny says she has become a partner with the Cleaning For A Reason Foundation.
Kenny says the non-profit, charitable organization puts women undergoing cancer treatments in touch with participating professional cleaning services in their area.
The women are then eligible for up to an hour and a half of housecleaning each month during the duration of their treatment program.
Kenny says the program is very well-known in the U.S — but is new to Canada.
So far one woman from our area has contacted the Foundation, but Kenny expects the calls to pick up once the word spreads.
She doesn’t think she will be able to completely cover the need and hopes other local cleaning businesses sign up as well.
Kenny says she didn’t hesitate when contacted about the opportunity to work with the Foundation.
She says it’s a perfect fit and she really likes the fact that she’s directly helping people in her community.
Kenny says she will pay her employees out of pocket for the work they do at houses in the program.
To sign up – a woman undergoing cancer treatments or a close family member must get in touch with the Foundation, not Merry Maids.
