The OPP want you to be aware of a scam that is targeting more and more people.
Police say the scam usually comes to you by email and claims to be a family member or family friend informing you of an emergency situation that needs you to send money.
The e-mail usually says the situation involved an arrest or accident while travelling.
The sender has recently been using contact lists from hijacked email accounts so it looks like you really do know the person the email is from.
Police say the scam has grown by 157 percent across Canada over reports received last year.
You are urged not to send money in reply to these emails, it is a scam.
