Grey County staff are pouring over the province’s first response to their 5 Year Official Plan Review.
Planning and Community Development Committee Chair Duncan McKinlay says they received a preliminary letter from the province on Tuesday.
McKinlay says the letter outlines some discussion topics that the province is interested in.
He says provincial staff want to hear more details on matters where Grey County has a different perspective than they do.
McKinlay says one of those matters is urban boundaries.
McKinlay says the province has visions of how expansion should occur across Ontario and seems to be focused on high density development.
But he says Grey County is interested in sensible expansion in small towns and hamlets, not just concentrating more people in the built-up urban areas.
McKinlay says the Planning and Community Development Committee will be going over the letter next week.
In terms of getting final approval from the province on Grey County’s 5 Year Official Plan Review – McKinlay says there is no set timeline.
He says it will be worth it putting a lot of time into getting the agreement right now, because taking issues later to the Ontario Municipal Board can be very costly.
