Owen Sound residents have several different ways to recycle unwanted goods in their homes.
Saturday is goods exchange day in the city and the Great Refrigerator Round up is underway as well.
The cities Environmental Superintendent Chris Hughes says the Goods Exchange day has been around since 1991 and has taken off right across the community.
He says its a perfect opportunity for homeowners to rid themselves of stuff they don’t want rather than take to the landfill for disposal.
Hughes says people place unwanted but still usable items at the curb in front of their homes after 8 Saturday morning and tie a white plastic bag around to one of the items to show people they are intended for goods exchange.
He says any item that is not picked up should be removed from the curb before 6 in the evening.
Hughes also says people who have an old working fridge in their basement now can get rid of it for nothing in Ontario Power Generations Great Refrigerator Round up.
He says this is an effort to get rid of old energy wasting appliance that are in many basements.
Hughes says by getting rid of an old fridge or freezer, homeowners can save up to 150 dollars worth of electricity every year.
If you want to get ride of an old second fridge, the number to call is 1-877-797-9473.
