There’s a lot of buzz over a sweet new trailer in Kincardine.
The Ontario government is supplying over 16 thousand dollars to local honey producer Anderkin Foods and the Grey Bruce Agricultural and Culinary Association.
The funding will pay for a trailer that will be used to promote and sell honey, as well as promote the association’s activities.
The ACA is dedicated to increasing the awareness and use of locally-produced agricultural food.
Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell says a renaissance is taking place along rural roadsides because a resurgence of interest in buying locally-produced products is taking place.
She says the increased interest is strengthening communities.
Anderkin Foods produces Lazy J brand honey.
Owner Guy Anderson says he and the ACA wanted a way to make it easier to travel around the area to sell honey products and promote local food at markets, fairs and events like Pumpkinfest.
ACA Chair Jenny Amy, owner of a Southampton Bed and Breakfast says it used to be difficult to pack up promotional material and take it to various events.
She says now with the trailer, they’ll have a much more professional presence and will be able to take their promotional material with them to promote not only honey, but the whole association.
Amy says Anderkin foods will own the trailer and is helping the association by distributing the material on their behalf.
She says interest in their maps showing local food producers in Grey and Bruce has been unexpectedly strong this year.
20 thousand maps were originally printed, but they’re all gone.
Another 10 thousand have been ordered.
