The Southport chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women is celebrating two decades of service.
The organization is made up of women from Saugeen Shores.
President Cheryl Kryzaniwsky says the national organization started in 1919 when there were few women who attended or graduated university.
She says membership has expanded to include those who attend and graduate community colleges, and associate members who just believe in the full equality of women.
Kryzaniwsky says there are 60 members of the Southport chapter and new ones are encouraged to join.
She says they have a monthly program each month on the second Wednesday.
The theme for the speaker series starting tonight at 7 PM is Women Around the World: Peace, Poverty, and Politics.
All meetings take place at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
There are also special interests connected with the Southport Club, including issues discussion, hiking, video presentations, dinners, and book clubs.
As for advancing the cause of equality for women, Kryzaniwsky says the job isn’t finished.
She says a lot of work still has to be done internationally and locally.
Kryzaniwsky says women only make 70 cents for every dollar men make, and they still do not hold executive positions in sectors like banking.
She adds there still aren’t enough women enrolled in engineering programs.
