It’s a celebration of aboriginal tradition this weekend on the Saugeen First Nation.
The 38th annual Competition Pow Wow takes place on Saturday and Sunday.
Cultural Committee Member Chrystal Kewageshig says there will be lots of competition dancing with different traditional, fancy, childrens categories, as well as the Miss Saugeen Pageant on Friday evening at the James Mason Recreational Centre.
Kewageshig says the theme this year is honouring elders and future leaders.
She says a mini pow-wow was held at the reserve’s day care centre on Wednesday as a way of getting young people more exposed to traditional singing, dancing, and culture.
Kewageshig says from her personal experience as a dancer, it’s always a special opportunity to rekindle friendships year after year.
Admission to the pow wow is eight dollars for adults, six dollars for seniors and youth, ages six and under are free.
Grand entry takes place on Saturday at 1 PM and 7 PM, and on Sunday at 1 PM.
