Owen Sound Police are crediting a good Samaritan with helping them nab a couple of purse snatchers.
Two young men armed with a knife knocked a woman to the ground in the downtown yesterday just before 3 PM.
Deputy Police Chief Bill Sornberger says the 56 year old woman fought back and was dragged along the sidewalk for a short distance.
The men eventually got the better of her, grabbed her purse and took off on foot.
They didn’t get very far with a 64 year old man in hot pursuit.
Sornberger says the man chased the suspects but he, too, was knocked down, kicked and suffered puncture wounds to his hands from the knife.
However he was able to give police a description of the suspects and where they ran to.
Officers quickly made two arrests without incident.
A 19 year old faces several charges including assault causing bodily harm.
A 24 year old faces similar charges but has also been charged in connection with the armed robbery of the Owen Sound Mr. Sub on April 27th.
Police also seized a number of replica guns from the home.
As for the female victim and the good Samaritan — police say they were both treated for injuries and released from hospital.
Deputy Chief Sornberger says this time the story had a positive outcome however police do not recommend taking the law into your own hands.
He says its better to be a witness from a distance than to confront suspects with weapons.
