Saugeen Shores Police are warning drivers to follow the rules of the road at pedestrian crosswalks.
The crossing by Saugeen District Secondary School has been a particular problem and accidents have taken place there.
Police Chief Dan Rivett says if a vehicle is stopped in a crosswalk, another vehicle cannot legally pass it.
Rivett says in that situation, a driver cannot tell if a pedestrian is trying to cross the street at that time.
He says a lot of the problems come from drivers who are stopped while waiting to make a left turn, and another driver decides to pass on the right but doesn’t know if someone is trying to cross the street.
Rivett says they’re actively handing out warnings right now at the high school crossing and explaining to drivers what their responsibilities are at crosswalks.
He says shortly they’ll stop handing out warnings and issue tickets instead.
Drivers found not obeying the law at a pedestrian crossing can face fines of 150 dollars.
