After over 30 years in various forms, Tanglefoot will stop performing together.
The band was originally based in Peterborough, but also has deep roots in Grey-Bruce. Four of the five current members live in the area.
Guitarist Steve Ritchie joined Tanglefoot in 1988. He said recently on Sounding Board that after 21 years he started to think it was maybe time to do something else.
Ritchie says being in the band has always felt like a calling to him and wants to end its lengthy run on a high note.
He says he wants everyone to still have as much energy and enthusiasm at the end as they did in the beginning.
In 2007, Tanglefoot won Best Vocal Group at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in Ottawa.
Ritchie says it was an honour none of the band members were expecting.
Tanglefoot has always been known for it’s high energy and lyrics based on events, people, and places in Canadian history, including the Grey-Bruce region.
Ritchie says all of the music they do has a historical aspect and they’ve always been about storytelling based on a small town way of looking at the world.
Tanglefoot has a full touring schedule set for its final year, including England in June and July.
Locally, they’ll be performing this year in Wiarton, Owen Sound, Goderich, and Walkerton.
Their final show will be in December in Owen Sound.
