Owen Sound Council has had a change in heart.
Owen Sound residents are still free to own as many cats as they please.
Council re-visited the by-law at Monday night’s meeting, which would limit the number of cats per household in the City of Owen Sound to 3.
The motion was defeated 5-4.
Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners says she voted against the motion because she thought 3 cats was too restrictive for a household.
Lovell Stanners says the only way to enforce the by-law is for someone to go door to door and count the cats.
Resident Sylvia Moss has been fighting against the by-law since it was introduced.
Moss-who owns 5 cats-says she is extremely please with councils decision.
She says the by-law was inadequate because it could not be enforced and it would put a strain on local animal shelters.
She says you can fight City Hall and if you believe in something then say so instead of complaining about it.
Councillor John Christie changed his vote since the last meeting, which defeated the by-law this week.
