Archivist Karin Foster says the centrepiece exhibit is called ‘From Slavery to Freedom: African-Canadians in Grey County’.
Foster says it was first developed in 2002 but is always in high demand.
She says it’s a real community exhibit with contributions of personal recollections, photographs, and artifacts.
Foster says Black History is integral with the history of Grey County – black pioneers were among the first settlers in the area.
She also says there is a strong connection in the area with the Underground Railroad.
Foster says these stories are not always covered in the local histories and it’s important to add that extra dimension to people’s understanding of the settlement of the area.
Other exhibits include a film festival, with a documentary on the Underground Railroad being screened every weekend.
Foster says everything is a lead up to the launch on February 28th of Volume 6 of the Northern Terminus Journal, a publication devoted to Black History.
