South Bruce announced that they are pulling out of their membership with the Bruce Grey and Huron Disability Transportation Corporation.
They cite a lack of Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding (OMPF) as the reason they are pulling out.
Chair of the Bruce Grey and Huron Disability Transportation Corporation Selwyn Hicks says he is disappointed by the decision of South Bruce but understands where they are coming from.
He says while the current level of funding in South Bruce is down, it will eventually go up again.
Hicks — a Hanover Councillor — says Arran-Elderslie is also in the same position as South Bruce regarding OMPF funding as they too are in a rural area.
But he says the Municipality has no plans on pulling out like South Bruce.
Hicks says right now the corporation has not received the operational funding for 2009.
He says they usually receive the funding in January but they are currently operating on borrowed funds.
Hicks says the corporation is working with the remaining municipalities in helping them in their efforts to restructure the funding formula in order to obtain federal gas tax funds.
The formula determines funding based on how much the corporation spends on their operations.
He says the current formula works well for large municipalities but not for smaller ones and until that changes the corporation is in trouble.
