A new program is designed to help respond to emergency situations better.
[County Council agreed to form a new tiered response program for all 8 municipalities in the County at yesterdays Emergency Services committee meeting in Walkerton.
Director of EMS Doug Smith says this program will allow fire chiefs to respond to a specific emergency.
He says before fire departments would respond to any call and more often than not they find out that their services are not needed once they arrive at the scene.
Smith says there is a list of 40 different situations that fire departments can respond to.
He says the decision on what calls to respond is entered into a database at the London Central Ambulance Communication Centre.
He says emergency calls would then be dispatched in a more timely fashion.
Smith says the tiered response program takes the guess work out of what calls require the attention of fire departments or ambulance services.
He says it will improve on an existing system that has worked quite effectively.
He says anything you can do to enhance something and make it work better is money well spent.
