The new 2009 Grey Sauble Conservation authority budget has passed, but not without some grumbling by member municipalities.
It is set at 2.6 million dollars, which is up 7.5% from a year ago and South Bruce Peninsula, Chatsworth and Arran Elderslie reps on the authority don’t like it.
South Bruce Peninsula is calling on rural municipalities to take the issue of funding to Queens Park.
Ontario used to provide 1.4 million dollars to the Grey Sauble authority, but that was cut to 71 thousand dollars in 1995 and has remained at that level ever since.
General Manager Jim Manicom says they have been calling on the province for years to reinstate the money, and he hopes pressure from member municipalities can do the trick.
Although the budget won approval over the objections of the 3 municipalities … Manicom says it only means a 71 cent hike to the average property tax payer this year.
