Captain Peter Buell assumed the Directors position on Tuesday and says his main priority is to get the word out about the world class training facility that exists in Owen Sound.
He says the newly installed Marine Simulator makes the Georgian College Facility one of the worlds top marine training facilities and once the word gets out, students from all over will want to continue their education here.
Captain Buell says anticipating that increased demand, they are now developing courses that they were not able to provide before the installation of the new simulator.
He says when the simulator is not in use by students, it will be used by marine industry officers to upgrade their ship handling skills.
Captain Buell says this simulator allows ship officers to practice entering and leaving any harbour in the world, experience situations on the high seas and simulate the entire running of the engine room.
He says right now is the perfect time for anyone to consider a career in the marine industry because while the rest of the economy is sputtering, its full steam ahead for the Marine sector.
With many people reaching retirement age Captain Buell says there many employment opportunities on ships on both the Great Lakes and the oceans of the world as well.
Captain Buell arrives in Owen Sound after an extensive career in the Marine industry including 17 years with the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal New Zealand Navy and most recently the Assistant Director of Marine Services for the Government of the Northwest Territories.
