OPSEU is heading into binding arbitration with Grey county over it’s contract dispute with paramedics.
Local 250 President Tim Sullivan says the union wants to bring salaries in line with paramedics in neighbouring Counties, and that means a 13% pay boost over 3 years.
So far, the County has been unwilling to match the pay of workers in Grey or Wellington, although Sullivan says council used the same criteria to raise their own pay in December.
The arbitration session is being held at Best Western Inn on the Bay in Owen Sound today beginning at 10am.
He says a 3 member panel will hear the arguements of both sides, but he doesn’t expect a ruling for a few months …
The dispute affects some 60- full time and 50 part time paramedics on ambulances in Grey county.
Sullivan says they’ve been trying to bargain with Council for a raise since 2007, but are now being forced into an arbitration process.
