Town Council has approved logos for Southampton and Port Elgin that were developed by locally-based Graphic Designer Brad Smith.
The Southampton logo incorporates a sunset and an image resembling the Chantry Island Lighthouse.
The Port Elgin logo represents waves and beaches.
Colours on the logos include orange and blue.
Councillor Diane Huber likes the Southampton design and says it was well received when staff recently showed it to local community groups.
She says it’s colourful and shows energy, and hopes it can also incorporate Southampton’s position as the oldest port on the Bruce coast.
Community Services Director Mike Myatt says the logos will be sent to Corbin Design, the company developing the planned new gateway signs for Port Elgin and Southampton.
The gateway signs are part of efforts for better branding and tourism signage across Bruce County.
Myatt says Port Elgin and Southampton are two unique and different communities and the colour and vibrancy of the logos brings both places a fresh look.
More logo development could happen though in the future. Councillor Jane Barber says she’d like to see a new logo developed for the entire town of Saugeen Shores.
Councillor Luke Charbonneau says two logos already exist, one used by the Chamber of Commerce and another by the municipality.
He’s concerned that two logos are too confusing for visitors and when it comes to marketing the municipality.
