Eight students from the board have applied to be part of the new Minister’s Student Advisory Council and to get individual project funding of up to 15 hundred dollars.
Student Senator Megan Myles is one of the applicants. She applied because she thought it would be an extension of her experience as a Student Senator.
She says provincial decisions affect the decisions made locally and having a stronger student voice provincially could help students be more influential at the board and school level.
Myles says she at first wondered if the Minister’s Advisory Council could just be a way for the government to advance its agenda but decided to give the idea “the benefit of the doubt.”
She says she also sees the opportunity to be on the council as an opportunity for personal growth and is content with that aspect of involvement.
