Councillors in Arran-Elderslie will not be getting a raise.
Mayor Ron Oswald says in the face of a suffering economy, councillors have rejected a three percent increase in their remuneration for this year.
Oswald says they believe they are showing leadership and restraint by not accepting the raise at a difficult time.
The vote against the raise was unanimous.
Going into this year’s budget talks, Oswald says it’s going to be difficult to put together a budget this year, but he hopes to come up with something that is acceptable for Arran-Elderslie ratepayers.
