Aaron Legge helps run a farm located on the Grey Bruce Line near Scone.
He and Lorne Underwood — President of the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture — came to a recent meeting of the Bruce County Agriculture, Tourism, and Planning committee.
Legge says young farmers in Bruce County have a hard time either starting up or expanding their farm business.
He says the funding from programs at both the federal and provincial levels haveĀ missed their mark.
He says the money is going to people who are retired or deceased and are not going to the people that need them.
Legge says he will bring it up with Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture — Leona Dombrowski.
Legge feels the number of young people getting into farming will continue on its downward trend.
He says farmers who are still in business will have to pick up the slack and be responsible for feeding the towns and cities in Canada.
Legge also brought up the traffic issues along the Grey Bruce Line near Scone.
He says his farm operates a number of vehicles that use the road.
He wants to make sure drivers are aware that they are using the road too and safety is important to them.
