The trial of Durham area Raw milk farmer Michael Schmidt will resume today in Newmarket.
Schmidt is facing some 20 charges in connection with his production and distribution of un-pasteurized milk, which violates the Milk Act.
The Grey county farmer feels the first week of the trial went very well and he is optimistic he will win.
Schmidt says the judge basically side with him at one point, saying the use of force by the MNR during a raid on his farm was despicable.
The crown has had a half dozen witnesses, while the Durham area farmer had two witnesses testify in his defence including a microbiologist from Australia, Ron Hull.
Hull has been involved in the milk industry since the 70’s and believes farm fresh raw milk is just as safe as pasteurized milk.
Schmidt believes the case will adjourn tomorrow … with both sides presenting final submissions in about a month, and then the judge will rule on the charges.
