Management at the Grey Bruce Health unit has written a letter to Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch countering what they claim is campaign of misinformation in the local paper.
Officials claim significant factual errors, a gross misunderstanding of documents and errors of omission were reported as fact.
MOH Dr. Hazel Lynn says when articles were written about the health unit in late December, the board decided to ignore them, but recently they received a request from the MPP to reply to the claims.
In the letter to Murdoch, Dr. Lynn says it was made clear to OPSEU well before the recent contract talks that fewer support staff would be needed in the new headquarters.
The Board of Health says 5 jobs were eliminated.
OPSEU has claimed it was unaware of any layoffs being considered, and has threatened to file bad faith bargaining charges against the Health unit board.
Dr. Hazel Lynn says the Ontario Nurses Association was also well aware of how much money they were working with, and since funding fell short of their expectation ONA should have anticipated nursing staff cuts.
Four part time and 2 full time nurses were given layoff notices from the Grey Bruce health unit.
The Medical officer of health says the public is welcome to come in and look at the books, and check out her management system.
