There was not a cloud in sight at this morning’s prediction ceremony.
Wiarton Willie was surrounded by more than 200 people this morning when he saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Gwen Gilbert relayed Willie’s message to the crowd at 8:07 A.M.
Her announcement was followed by a mix of groans and cheers from the crowd.
Gilbert says some people were disappointed — but adds we take it and make the best of it.
Gilbert says she is very pleased with the overall turnout of Willie Weekend.
She says the crowds have been up this year because of new venues and Canadian Idol runner up Drew Wright.
Gilbert says this weekend is great for the tourist aspect of the area and helps break up the long winter.
Sauble Beach resident Mary Lou Mayou says she would have loved to have seen an early spring.
Mayou says although it wasn’t what she wanted to hear, she says Willie knows what he’s talking about and will follow his prediction anyway’s.
Hamilton resident Jonathon Wright couldn’t be happier with Willie’s prediction.
Wright came up to Wiarton for the morning with his mom and dad and says this will give him more time to get his snowmobile trail pass.
The vote was unanimous for groundhogs across the board.
Shubenacadie Sam from Nova Scotia and Punxsutawney Phil from Pennsylvania both saw their shadows as well.
