Kirkland’s Valu Mart will close it’s doors Saturday night and when the store opens on Sunday it will be run by Loblaws.
Jay Kirkland says it’s a sign of the times adding there is little room for the small independent grocer anymore.
As far as changes, Kirkland says he imagines there will be changes in the store but a new franchise owner has not been found so the store will be run out of Loblaws head office for the first few months.
All current employees at the Valu Mart are guaranteed their jobs.
Kirkland says they have some 25 employees over the winter but that balloons to nearly 70 in the summer months.
For now, the signs outside the store remain Kirkland’s Valu Mart.
