That is not from Wiarton Wille, but Environment Canada’s Chief Climatologist David Phillips who says the cloudy conditions with flurries will continue well into Monday or Groundhog day.
That means Wiarton Willie wont see his shadow and that means an early spring.
Phillips says that is good news, because its not just the economy that has people grumpy this January, but the length and severity of this winter.
He says basically winter has been with us since before Halloween with no real break from the snow and cold temperatures.
Phillips says January has been especially brutal with no real January thaw and below average temperatures for most of the month.
He says in Grey Bruce the average January temperature was minus 9.8 compared to last years average of minus 2.6 degrees.
In addition we have a lot more snow than last year as well.
So far there has been almost 27 per cent more snow fall this year than last year with a total accumulation so far of around 367 cm of the white stuff compared to the 289 cm we would usually get.
Phillips says no matter what Wharton predicts Monday, there is a bit of good news for the remainder of the winter.
He says their computer projections show that the Georgian Bay Grey Bruce area will be warmer than normal for the months of February and March.
