The consumer rush toward more organic and locally grown food has resulted in a upsurge in business for a local Organic farm and Market.
Grass Roots Organics Eco Farm and Market owner Sean McGivem says a lot more people are visiting his Desboro area farm in their quest to eat healthier.
He says he started this business about 8 years ago in Hanover where they did processing or organic grains for export.
However he says they moved to their farm property near Desboro about four years ago and build a milling facility and expanded into value added products.
McGivem says they now make organic flour, cereals, pastas using their own products so they can generate the maximum return on theĀ products grown on their farm, rather than just be in the commodity business.
He says they use the old world method of stone milling which helps preserve the nutritional value of the flour.
In addition McGivem says they raise cattle, pigs chickens ducks and turkeys and grow their own organic, barley, oats peas and corn.
He says the animals they raise are housed in a humane manner with no crowded pens, farrowing crates or slatted floors and there are no caged laying hens.
