Brockton Council recently passed a motion recognizing Tuesday January 27 as Family Literacy Day in the Municipality.
Dyan Jones — Coordinator of the South Bruce Grey Literacy Council — was part of a delegation at Mondays meeting asking for Councils support.
Jones admits it is an abstract concept but says governments are embracing this and acknowledging the importance in supporting the youth.
She says there are some young people who are struggling with their reading and others who are gifted.
Jones says people should read to their children and grandchildren, read a newspaper, support libraries and booksellers on Family Literacy Day.
She says we are marking the fact that we have the ability to read which allows people to form opinions, take in information, and exercising their right to vote.
January 27 is ABC Canada Family Literacy Day across Canada.
