The Ontario Library Association is Canadas largest library organization and OLAs Super Conference is Canada’s largest continuing education event in librarianship.
It runs January 27 to the 30th at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith will be there representing Bruce County Libraries with others.
He says a discussion surrounding a recent windfall of fifteen million dollars from the Ministry of Recreation and Culture to be shared among libraries in Ontario will take place.
Smith says the conference offers communities to share thoughts on the library system, and possible new innovative methods of operation.
He would like to see a “super-card” of sorts, that would allow residents to have one library card, and in-turn access resorts from any library across the province.
Smith says a library is no longer just a book lending place – it is a community hub, where anyone can access any much needed information through a variety of methods.
Meanwhile, Smith is excited the re-opening of the Port Elgin Library is about to take place.
He expects it to open mid-February with a grand opening celebration when the spring warmer weather comes.
When renovations totalling 1.4 million dollars are complete, the libary on Goderich Street will be fully accessible.
Work began in April of last year and residents have had to access services from other Bruce County Branches.
