2008 was another strong year for Construction in Owen Sound.
Chief Building official Brian Green says there were nearly 500 construction permits issued last year, up slightly from a year ago with the total value nearly 28.5 million dollars.
Green says value of construction started last year is up 8.9% and the number of new homes started was also up from 2007.
For the month of December, Green says 22 permits were issued, compared with 25 year ago.
He says it was the best year for construction in Owen Sound since the boom in 1989 and he anticipates another solid year in 2009.
Some of the major projects last year include the new 1.8 million dollar Shoppers Drug mart downtown and about 2.1 million dollars worth of work on the Owen Sound police building.
