Canadian Agra will soon have a back up system to supply steam to its new dehydration plant at the Bruce Eco Industrial Park near Tiverton.
President Helmut Sieber says it’s being built by the Bruce Eco Industrial Park Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Canadian Agra.
Sieber says the plant dehydrates alfalfa which is then pressed into cubes and used as feed for race horses.
Sieber says the backup system will allow the plant to keep running if the regular supply system of excess steam from Bruce Power is disrupted.
The new system will be designed to switch on within 90 seconds if the regular service is disrupted.
Sieber says the new backup system will be ready by the end of May, in time for the processing season to start during the first week of June.
Construction is supposed to begin as soon as the frost leaves the ground this spring.
Canadian Agra hopes will release more details on the project in February.
