Huron-Kinloss is trying to clear up who gets a free blue box from the township and who doesn’t.
The existing by-law says all new residents moving into the municipality get a free blue box for recycling, and that replacement boxes cost seven dollars.
Staff are finding it difficult to know who is, and who isn’t a new resident when a request for a blue box is made.
The policy will be changed so that only owners of newly built homes get a free blue box. They’ll be issued when building staff do inspections.
All other residents residents of Huron-Kinloss will have to pay seven dollars for a new blue box.
