The CEO of Wescast Industries wants to clear the air.
Ed Frackowiak tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they have already laid off 140 staff due to the reduction in demand for their exhaust products.
He says the announcement to close one of their two Wingham plants this week will not mean an additional 140 workers will lose their jobs.
Wescast will close its Wingham North Huron foundry and transfer production to its second Wingham foundry over the next few months.
Frackowiak says it’s unfortunate that there has been such a downturn in the automotive sector.
The plant is slated for closure in the first quarter and will save the company about 10 million dollars a year.
Frackowiak says after 100 years in Wingham, Wescast does not anticipate any plans to reduce their involvement in the community.
